Service and
Sanctuary
..a new sabbatical
option
Starting January 2008, the Whidbey Institute
at Chinook instituted an extended stay option
for those seeking a time of reflection and peace
on our beautiful land through voluntary service
(25 hrs. per week). Since our housing is quite
limited, we have only a few openings a year. Applications
will be received at any time, but those interested
are encouraged to plan several months ahead for
this possibility. One month minimum stay; three
month maximum. Please go to the volunteer page
of our website for more information and to download
a Service and Sanctuary application form
- Volunteers will receive:
- Private housing in one
of our simple cabins with
separate access to bath
and kitchen facilities.
- Participation in Institute
meals when they are already
being provided for a group.
- Participation in one Institute
program if available during
the extended stay.
- Supervision of work assignments.
- Volunteers will offer:
- 25 hours per week of assigned
work, probably on land/facilities
or in the office depending
on skills.
- Willingness to abide within
community practices such
as recycling, quiet hours,
guest
hospitality, mission awareness.
- Occasional coverage of
resident caretaker duties.
