All participants, ages 10+, are welcomed to the Chinook BioBlitz. Teachers who participate will receive clockwork hours.
The Bioblitz runs from 10 am to 12:30 pm, followed by lunch and an optional 12:30—1:30 iNaturalist training.
The Chinook BioBlitz is a day to celebrate the biodiversity of our bioregional home, Cascadia, in the 100-acre forest of Chinook. We will spend the day exploring and getting to know the many beings who live on the Chinook land up close and personal. As we go, we will share our learning with the wider world with photographs and notes using iNaturalist. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy together after the BioBlitz. A salad will be provided by the Whidbey Institute’s Westgarden.
What we will learn:
In partnership with SEA (Service, Education, and Adventure), teachers who participate will receive clockwork hours.
From 12:30 – 1:30, there will be an additional training in the use of iNaturalist on smartphone and computer for those who wish to understand how to use the platform personally, to facilitate groups/classes, and to generate photography slide shows drawing from the photos of many people. Using the iNaturalist platform, we will learn how to make observations that directly increase public awareness and appreciation and contribute to research by linking to citizen science efforts.
