Screening of “Bad Ass Women Doing Kick Ass Shit” with Director Q&A

The film Bad Ass Women Doing Kick Ass Shit is an award-winning feature-length documentary that won Best Director in 2024 at the Cannes 7th Art Awards. Co-produced by Abie Ekenezar and A’Noelle Jackson, this compelling film spotlights at its center the unique experiences of Washington State Senator Mona Das and seven other BIPOC women as they ran for political office in the United States. Comprised of a series of authentic, personal conversations, this film shines a light on the daily lives and struggles these magnetic women faced during their individual campaigns.

Screening of documentary, Bad Ass Women Doing Kick Ass Shit (81 minutes), including a brief talk by community leader Marie Shimada on her personal experiences related to the themes of the film, and a Q&A with director and co-producer, Abie Ekenezar. Water and tea will be provided at the event.

Abie Ekenezar
Ekenezar is an award winning producer and director living in Seattle, WA and has been in the entertainment industry since September 2013. They formed BabsEk Productions in 2017 and had their producing and directorial debut was November 2020 for the film short, Prefer-Racial Treatment and has gone on to produce Outlawz, a western set in Tacoma. Most recent is their Feature Documentary that has won seven awards is Bad As Women Doing Kick Ass Shit that follows the lives of 8 BIPOC women of varying ages on their political journey which will be streamed on November 5, Election Day. Marie Shimada
As a community leader and organizer, Shimada’s résumé speaks to the film’s themes of women of color in the political sphere. Her experience also includes a past job with the nation’s first-ever National Historical Reserve, co-founding of the Agricultural Resources Committee for Island County, being a board member for the Economic Development Council for Island County, and being an ambassador for the Embrace Whidbey and Camano Islands (tourism board) creative team.
